When it comes to determining the Atlantic City casino with the best slots, there is really only one statistic that matters: return to player rate (RTP).

Borgata Slots offers over 100 free online casino games for you to play, including free online slots, blackjack, roulette, video poker, bingo and keno. Fun games with lots of animation. It’s a lot of fun. It has a wide variety of slot games and a few slot tournaments. And they are frequently adding new games.

For games in a casino, the odds of winning are expressed in RTP.

  • Essentially, RTP is the percentage of money bet on a game that the game will ultimately pay back to players.
  • If a game has a 90 percent RTP, for every $100 bet on it, a player should expect to win back $90.

However, RTP indicates the longterm performance of a game. This means it may take more than $100 in bets for the game to pay back that $90. Nothing is guaranteed, particularly in the short term, and a player may not ever see a slot’s true RTP realized before they run out of money playing it.

That said, RTP remains the best indicator of which casino has the loosest, and therefore best slots.

Atlantic City casino slots: Always look for RTP

According to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement’s Atlantic City Casino Industry Casino Win Data For Calendar Year 2017 document, slots at the seven Atlantic City casinos operating last year had an overall average of 92.1 percent RTP. It’s no wonder slots are so popular.

The average RTP is actually much lower for the penny slots that appear to be the busiest in most Atlantic City casinos.

In fact, the one cent and two cent slots at Atlantic City casinos had an average of 88.7 percent RTP in 2017. The penny slots at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa were the best among them at 89.8 percent RTP. However, Borgata’s overall average RTP among slots of all denominations was 91.89 percent, below the industry average and far from the best in the business.

High roller slots pay much better across the board. The best $25 slots can be found at Bally’s Atlantic City Hotel & Casino, where they had a 94.4 percent RTP last year. The Atlantic City average for $25 slots in 2017 was 92.5 percent RTP.

For $100 slots, Resorts Casino Hotel and Tropicana Casino & Resort Atlantic City posted 94.1 and 94.2 percent RTP respectively last year. Numbers that were well above the 91.7 percent RTP industry average for $100 slots.

The loosest slots among the thousands at Atlantic City casinos in 2017 were actually the five-cent slot machines at Tropicana. These slots posted a 95.2 percent RTP on their way to becoming one of Atlantic City’s best bets last year.

Tropicana Casino & Resort Atlantic City

Plus, they helped Tropicana Casino & Resort Atlantic City post an overall average of 92.59 percent RTP on slots of all denominations, making the Trop the Atlantic City casino with the loosest and best slots.

Here’s a look at the average RTP on slots of all denominations for all seven Atlantic City casinos:

  • Tropicana Casino & Resort Atlantic City: 92.59 percent
  • Caesars Atlantic City Hotel & Casino: 92.24 percent
  • Bally’s Atlantic City Hotel & Casino: 92.23 percent
  • Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa: 91.89 percent
  • Resorts Casino Hotel: 91.82 percent
  • Golden Nugget Atlantic City: 91.66 percent

Tropicana’s history in Atlantic City

The origins of Tropicana Casino and Resort lie in The Ambassador Hotel, circa 1919.

The Ambassador infamously played host to the Atlantic City Conference for organized crime bosses. The likes of Al Capone, Meyer Lansky and Lucky Luciano all attended.

The Ambassador closed in the 1970s. However, Ramada brought its bones back to life in 1981. The organization actually purchased the Ambassador in 1978 with plans to remodel. Ramada was forced by the New Jersey Casino Control Commission and then-Gov. Brendan Byrne to demolish the property and build a new hotel and casino practically from the ground up, reusing only the steel framework from the old hotel.

Ramada bought the Tropicana Resort & Casino in Las Vegas in 1979 and decided to call the under-construction Boardwalk property Tropicana Atlantic City.

It opened in November 1981, with a 521-room hotel and casino. Renovations continued throughout the 1980s, adding a showroom, a second hotel tower, and the Tivoli Pier indoor amusement center. Tropicana Atlantic City became TropWorld Casino and Entertainment Resort.

Tropicana changes hands

Ramada ended the 1980s by selling the Las Vegas Tropicana. The mid-1990s saw another new hotel tower added and further renovations. A new poker, keno and off-track betting area opened, and the property was renamed Tropicana Casino & Resort Atlantic City.

The early 2000s saw another new hotel tower, a parking garage, and increased meeting and convention space added. Plus, The Quarter at Tropicana, a 200,000-square-foot entertainment complex and shopping mall opened up.

Ownership landed in the hands of a company called Columbia Sussex in 2005. However, Columbia Sussex was denied a casino license in 2007. Ultimately, a trustee took control.

Icahn ran the property under his Tropicana Entertainment Inc. umbrella. The company has made more than $200 million in upgrades, renovations, and enhancements since 2013.

However, Icahn announced plans to sell Tropicana Entertainment Inc.’s US casino properties, including Tropicana Casino & Resort Atlantic City, to real estate investment trust Gaming and Leisure Properties in early 2018. As a part of the $1.85 billion deal, Eldorado Resorts will take over casino operations.

Borgata Slot Machines

Thursday night we headed to Borgata in AC for an overnight trip. We had a late dinner at Carmine’s (YUM!), headed back to Borgata, got the kids and hubby settled in the room and SlotMommy headed down to the casino to play some slots!
It was about 11 pm when I finally headed down. I remembered the win that Mr. & Mrs. CasinomanCT had on the .25 China Shores slot outside the HL room and headed that way. Luckily, it was open so I threw in my crisp, new $100 bill and started betting 20 lines ($5). Immediately, I could see China Shores was in a good mood today and started giving me action. Things were off to a good start! Within 10-15 minutes, China Shores awarded me with these nice wins:

I periodically kept glancing over my shoulder to check out the $1 Diamond Jackpot slots to the left of me. Last time we were there, hubby and I hit the emerald progressive on one of those slots. After I felt like China Shores was getting cold, I got up and moved on over to Diamond Jackpots.
The machine I decided to play, someone has just gotten the bonus on it for $50. I figured the odds of me getting the bonus again quickly were slim, but I decided to try anyway. Within 3 spins I got the bonus, but no progressive prizes were given, I got a 12x symbol which gave me $60.
I decided to give it a few more spins and luckily my persistence paid off because this time as the fourth reel spinned it landed on the green emerald which awarded me this nice progressive amount:

At this point I wanted to jump out of my seat and scream in excitement because I was shocked that I hit the emerald progressive again! The lady sitting next to me was very nice. She could probably feel my excitement and she congratulated me and said how happy she was for me. All the while I’m texting my hubby my winning pics and he kept telling me to keep up the good work.
After this I played a few more games but I wasn’t really winning on anything. I decided to play a newer dollar machine. Unfortunately, I can’t remember the name of the slot, I did play it last time I was there and didn’t do well on it but I wanted to give it another shot because it looked like a fun game if you can get the bonus on it. If you get three 7’s, you get to spin the wheel and win a prize amount. There’s 3 different wheels depending on which winning 7 combination you get...if you get mixed 7’s, red 7’s or flaming 7’s. Naturally, the flaming 7’s wheel has the biggest prizes on the wheel and the lowest amount starts at $500.
I was hoping for the three flaming 7’s but was still thrilled when I got the three mixed 7’s. So the wheel pops up and the lowest amount is $150 and I thought the highest amount was $750 so I was secretly hoping for $750. But then as it slowed down, I noticed there was also a $1,000 prize on the wheel and imagine my surprise when it landed on THAT amount!
1k Wheel Spin.jpg
I smacked my hand to my mouth and screamed silently to myself! HOLY SHEET!!! I didn’t expect that! I never got the highest amount on any wheel game I’ve ever played before so this was such an awesome surprise!
As I’m getting my wins, I’m cashing out my TITO’s and I’m starting to realize I have a nice little profit of TITO’s accumulating in my bag. I played various games for about another hour and a half, going up and down. Then I remembered a penny China Mystery game that I’ve hit well on a couple of other times later in the night so I decided to walk on over to it and give it a try.
Luckily, it was open so I sat down and started playing. Within a few spins I hit this beautiful screen:
China Mystery.jpg
OMG!!! I couldn’t believe it! ANOTHER BIG HIT! What a beautiful screen too…I was SO happy that I was max betting because it was such a nice payout. The machine kept playing nicely so I kept spinning and a little while later it awarded me with 54 free spins. The payout wasn’t as big as I was thinking it was going to be but it was still a nice win nonetheless:

I played that amount down to $1,000 and cashed out my TITO again. Now it’s about 2 am and I’m walking around with a huge smile on my face. I knew I was going home with a nice chunk of money and I still had some BR left to keep playing. I was having the night of my life with all of these wins and I felt awesome!
I played for another 1-1/2 hours and then I saw Zorro from across the room. I decided to give it a try. I got the bonus on the first spin. I was confused after the bonus because when I added up all four screens in my head, the prize amount I thought I was going to get awarded was over $300, but I only ended up with $12.50? Then I realized that I didn’t get awarded all the prize amounts because I didn’t accumulate enough Z's to win all four screen amounts, only the screen amount on the one bonus screen I had chosen. Oh well.
But the base game was giving me nice payouts so I decided to stick around. A little while later, I was excited to see that I had won the bonus again! This time I quickly accumulated enough Z's and I was able to win all four screen amounts which totaled this:
Zorro.jpg
Woo hoo!!! I was SO excited!!! Another big win!!! Wow, at this point I am beside myself with excitement! I am so NOT used to do this. Normally I lose most of the trips I take to the casino. Occasionally, I’ll win…but IF I do win, I’m normally a one-hit wonder kind of girl…I’ll usually get one big win and lose for the rest of the night. But tonight was VERY unusual…I was winning on so many machines and winning BIG! If felt like I was winning on practically every single machine I was going on.
At this point it was about 3 am and my hubby was texting me to see what time I planned on coming upstairs to go to bed. He reminded me that the kids will be up early and I need to get some sleep. I promised him I would be up by 3:30 am. The truth of the matter was, sleep was the last thing on my mind. It’s so rare that I win like this that I didn’t want the fun to end.
I decided my last game of the night that I would play would be Willy Wonka. And thankfully I chose that slot because Willy was in a wonderfully playful mood and the Oompa Loompa bonuses were coming out constantly. I put my last $100 into the slot and gradually built it up to almost $300. Since the OL bonuses were coming out so frequently (seemed like every 10-15 spins), I decided to hit max bet. Within about 4-5 spins, I heard that glorious song again and my heart jumped in excitement. I couldn’t wait to see what the Oompa Loompas had in store for me with my max bet!
Imagine my excitement when they dropped down FOUR wild reels!!!
Willy Wonka.jpg
OMG!!! I couldn’t believe it. Willy Wonka was screaming “YOU DID IT!!!” and the big win music was blaring and my credits were building up and I just had the biggest smile on my face imaginable!
After I took my WW pic, security came over and told me I’m not allowed to take pics. That was the first time I ever got scolded anywhere for taking pics. I was so scared that he was going to make me delete my pic because it is so pretty but luckily, he let it go.
That was the final sweet win to my unbelievably big winning night! It was 4:30 am (an hour later than I promised my hubby I would come back to the room) and I knew I had to call it a night. So I cashed in all my winning TITO’s and pocketed $4,000!!!! I came with a $500 BR so my profit was $3,500!!! WOO HOO!!! I NEVER came close to winning that much money at a casino in my life! And the best part was that it was tax-free!
What a night! That was without a doubt, THE MOST fun I have ever had in a casino. After losing for 6 months straight and only having one winning trip back in January for this entire year so far, this was my sweet pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! If anybody is still reading this after how long winded this story is, I thank you for sharing in my excitement and sticking through with it! Lol!
